So many homes in SE Wisconsin unfortunately have basement issues. Many new homeowners are surprised to learn that this is not a problem isolated to older houses-- in fact, with the improved drainage construction methods used around modern house foundations, drainage issues can become a major problem even more quickly. A properly-graded yard not only improves the look of your home's exterior, but far more importantly, moves water well away from your foundation where it doesn't belong.
Ask any Realtor, home inspector, or basement specialist-- improper grading is the #1 issue encountered when buying or selling a home. In most cases, it also can be completely remedied relatively easily by simply directing water away from the home. Not only does this alleviate the risk of your foundation seeping and buckling, it can alleviate a tired sump pump so that it can better weather that next big storm or power outage without any concern of flooding over.
Ideally, the ground surrounding the perimeter of a house should drop one inch for every foot that you move away from the house for the first 5-to-10 feet. While this is not always possible, the ground should never slope upwards as you move away from your house foundation.
While flat or negative slope conditions are relatively easy to correct, the process is rather labor-intensive. Numerous cubic yards of clay fill need to be trucked in and moved into place, not to mention restoring the surface landscaping afterwards. Let us make this task painless and turn-key for you as we have done for many happy customers in the past.
Our process involves trucking in several loads of clean clay backfill as a sloped & water-shedding underlayer (note this is best not to be topsoil), then topping it off with fresh mulch or topsoil & seed to restore the surface. In severe cases, an impervious plastic water barrier is laid down prior to finishing the top layer for additional water-shedding.
