Drainage Burial - Sump Pump & Downspouts

Sump Pump Discharge Burial:

Your sump pump is the heart of your basement waterproofing system. It's also important to remember that what happens outside of your basement can have a major impact on how much water leaks into your basement. Issues with sump pump discharge lines can lead to a clogged system or a system that is forced to run continually, shortening the life of the sump pump. Including a few fail-safes within your system can make the difference between a properly working system and a flooded basement.

Your sump pump system should discharge any ejected water far away from your home, sending it downhill away from the foundation. Otherwise, the water pumped out by your sump pump will collect in the earth around your foundation, which is the cause of the problem you're trying to address in the first place!  Rain gutter downspouts can have the same problem, adding to basement drainage issues, or the alternate of having unsightly downspout extensions that get your way at the surface.

Let us design & install underground piping to direct drainage underground and out of sight.  Not only can this improve the look of your home and eliminate muddy water pools at the surface, your sump pump will love you for it!

We have years of experience designing and installing drainage piping and dry wells that continue to work throughout harsh winter weather.  Be cautious installing "pop-up" solutions that freeze solid in the winter months-- this can cause a much larger headache than you had before.  We offer multiple options and solutions to direct water away while ensuring they continue to work year-round.

As an additional safeguard, we typically recommend installing an IceGuard® Discharge Line Fitting to each of our sump pump discharge lines. These fittings include a grated opening at the top, which will give flooding water an emergency relief in the event of a blocked or clogged pipe underground.

Rain Gutter Downspout Extensions:

Did you know that during a 1" rainfall, your roof accumulates and discharges over 500 gallons of rain water?  If your home's downspouts are too short to send this water away from your home, then all that water will end up accumulating around your basement foundation.  Despite this fact, most homes' downspout systems discharge immediately next to the home, as long discharge chutes can be unsightly and impede your yard.

Burying your downspouts to underground dispersion beds can effectively manage the water without creating an eyesore or trip hazard, facilitate lawn maintenance, and minimize potential blockages.

When considering burying them however, we recommend taking into account how they will prevent freezing up in winter months, as well as providing access points to prevent cleaning issues or blockages in the future.  Once again, we have gained the practical experience over dozens and dozens of installations to know the solutions that truly work.
